About
Luka
Luka is a loving, loyal, and big-hearted boy with an equally big personality. He had been with one family since birth before coming to the Wisconsin Humane Society (WHS). The circumstances of how he ended up at WHS are unknown, but he was adopted in July 2025. His previous family shared that he was very playful and good with kids. Unfortunately, they were no longer able to care for him and officially surrendered Luka right before the holidays.
He thrives on routine and feels most comfortable in familiar surroundings (don’t we all?). When the house is calm, Luka is calm. He’ll curl up in his bed or next to you for naps, accompanied by the most endearing snores you’ve ever heard.
Luka is high-energy and enthusiastic, especially when he matches the energy around him. He loves activity and engagement and would shine with an active adopter who enjoys walking, running, biking, or agility training. He’s smart, food-motivated, and responds well once a routine is established.
What Luka Does Well:
Crate trained
Food motivated and eager to learn
Knows sit, paw, and kennel
Would excel as an agility or adventure dog
Good with baths, grooming, nail trims
Shows no signs of aggression towards people
What Luka Is Still Working On:
High energy and impulse control
Walking manners (Gentle Leader recommended as a starting tool)
Counter surfing
Chewing stuffed toys (but not furniture or shoes)
Protective of his balls and sticks
He does have some aversion to loud noises and larger objects, like trash cans
Barking when anyone comes to the door. Doesn’t bark once settled down.
Luka is currently being fostered in Milwaukee and lives with two other dogs. It took a bit for all three dogs to co-exist, but with the right introductions and some time, we believe Luka could be okay having a dog sibling. We don’t know for sure if Luka would be good with a feline friend; however, he did live with one at his previous home.
Luka’s Ideal Home:
Luka would do best with an active individual or family with older children (12+), not because he dislikes kids (quite the opposite!), but because his excitement level rises with younger children. A fenced yard or space to run freely would be ideal, along with someone committed to continued training and mental stimulation.
He loves durable chew toys. Antlers are his favorite and have stood the test of time. He does best with a grain-free diet and enjoys fruits and vegetables, especially when frozen, which keeps things fun and engaging for him. Butt scratches will help you win his heart, too.
With structure, exercise, and love, Luka will be an incredibly loyal and adventurous companion. He’s ready for a home that matches his energy and gives him the guidance he deserves.
Look at Luka go!
What we’ve learned about Luka at dog training:
He’s incredibly smart
Treat motivated
Eager to learn and receptive to training
Knows “paw”
Loves to play with balls (more than we originally thought!)
We are dedicated to finding Luka a permanent home and setting him and his new family up for success. Therefore, we are willing to continue training at Crosby’s Canine Care if needed.
How did we get here?
Good question! Luka was taken in by a good Samaritan once she heard of Luka’s sad situation. He has been with her in short-term foster in Milwaukee since December 13, 2025. Unfortunately, Luka needs a long-term foster, or better yet, a family to adopt him and make him feel safe and loved. We are not part of a dog rescue and do not have the same resources. We are asking people to spread the word as much as possible and help us get Luka adopted!
While in short-term foster, we are learning more and more about Luka, teaching him good behaviors using positive reinforcement, and providing him with training.
